Welcome Message from AGISA President

Welcome!

On behalf of Asia GIS Association, we welcome your contribution and participation to ASIA GIS 2008 and KAGIS fall symposium.

In the era of ubiquitous network society and information ¡°explosion¡±, expected functionalities and roles of GIS are rapidly changing. In addition, emergence of second generation GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) in mid 2010¡¯s will accelerate the changes. Traditionally, GIS is regarded as a tool of generating and analyzing digital maps. Future GIS will be a common social platform based on location and position to help people and machine find, integrate and share information. With the combination with GNSS and other ground-based positioning systems, it will serve as a platform to provide location-based or context-based services on the real time basis not only to human users but also to robots and intelligent vehicles. Asia is leading next generation GIS research, development and implementation.

We welcome your visit to Busan and contribution to ASIA GIS 2008 to advance geo-spatial science and technology for the future.
